Fear is a desolate boneyard where our weak souls would rather go to hiding.. From an early age, I have been a person with few words, in reverence to having a low tolerance to distraction, as anyone who knows me, I like to be left alone or give me a few seconds to send my final project to my professor, then will have a chat....its not only a matter of dislike, it makes me uncomfortable.. Anyway that is just the thesis of todays Editorial. Today, I share with you, a part of me..that I've come to peace with. MY ACCENT. Yees, I know what you must be thinking: ~Wait you have an accent, - Where are you from?, - That's awesome, but wait, you seem to not be in sync with it; sorry but why? - Are you by any chance from Africa?,.... As Alexander Hamilton pleas in his musical, " We are never satisfied "......., there is just something about ourselves that sometimes seems foreign, trust me, foreign is good but it's like an ichy scalp, you just want to scratch. I was born just a few miles from Nairobi city's downtown which was infamously known as ( TAO) ....Growing up, my tongue was familiarized to new world's immediately.., I spoke five languages # Swahili. # French. # KinyaRwanda. #English. # KiBurundi. ( similar to KinyaRwanda) before the age of seven, my tongue carried five countires, cultures and exotic touch,..I was blessed. Most people can barely speak their mother tongue nevertheless try to learn a new language. Moving to America, changed my most proud fandom, my accent,..trust me I have an accent ( some people say it sound English - British ).but communication in the u.s. just made me stand out. As I mentioned earlier,...I like to be beneath the chaos,...and my accent, my birth partner just spotlighted me ( using broken ),............come to find out; it doesn't suit me at all. Today..., am more than in love with my accent, I love that am from a such a beautiful continent ( rooted in culture ) ...it feels good to say it out loud,.. am very blessed to be from Africa. My accent isn'the a flaw, but apart of me that makes me proud to be of such great descend, ... Am sure you'don't like to know how how I sound like.,,ooookk - Close your eyes,......imagine a tongue twister of a variation of cultures, that's how everyone with an accent sounds,),,, And isn't it so beautiful to be different, to carry the weight of multiples nations in your mouth,..to be a walking repository of your nation.,. Am happy.... Today's piece symbolizes my accent,,...very fresh, yet different kinds the simplest way.. My skirt is from Forever21, the white shirt is Thrifted,..don't you just love finding hidden treasures at the thrift store, ( I would definitely recommend trying out thrifting), my bag was a lovely gift from my twin sister, and my shoes ( berkinstocks) which I have lived in the whole summer are from American Eagle. Am leaving you with a tip........ " You are your own voice; so fill yourself with confidence and tell yourself everyday how amazing you are.
THANK YOU FOR STOPPING BY// AND as always remember that you inspire me. Love Mandy.
